Isaac Celnikier (1923-2011) was a French-Polish painter of Jewish origin and a Holocaust survivor. Born into a modest family in Warsaw, he spent part of his childhood in Janusz Korczak's orphanage. During the Second World War, he was imprisoned in the Bialystok ghetto before being deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. After the war, he studied art in Prague and became involved in the Polish art scene before settling permanently in Paris in 1957. His work was deeply influenced by his experiences in the camps. He received several awards and exhibited in many countries. He died in 2011 in Ivry-sur-Seine.
